Artist N.C. Wyeth Presentation

This image by N.C. Wyeth "mysterious island" is an example of aerial perspective. He establishes depth by coloring the areas farther from view in a blue hue, he also does this with the shadows.
This image by N.C. Wyeth titled "columbus" is a good demonstration of active and passive colors at work simultaneously. The active colors in this image are the yellow and orange hues on the right side, while the passive colors are the blue and green hues. The passive colors as intended seem to recede into the background of the image despite the rising sun (not yet visible) is supposed to be the background.

This image by N.C. Wyeth "robin hood" is an example of luminance. in front of the window there is what appears to be a reflection of light from a relatively strong source. When Wyeth painted this he created the illusion of light by using bright yellow and white in contrast to the neutral background.

In this image by N.C. Wyeth titled "happy 4th" the concept of color quantity is applicable. In this image, Wyeth intentionally utilizes a relatively large amount of blue and gray (cool colors) and small amount of red and yellow (warm colors). In this case the cool colors play the dominant role while the warm colors are recessive and not as important.

This image titled "tamon the craig face" demonstrates the use of complementary colors, specifically blue and orange (water and rock wall respectively), the two colors blend perfectly in almost any image.

This image titled "black spot" demonstrates the constancy effect. In this image the three men further toward the left all appear to have yellow garments on. It only appears so because of the yellow light behind them, our brains will naturally pick up on this and we can make the inference that their garments are in fact white, not yellow.
